The Shepherd’s bag refers to that small bag that Shepherd’s carry on them and it could probably contain food items, equipment, and in David’s case in 1 Sam 17;40, that Shepherd’s bag contained stones to kill Goliath.

Usually, a Shepherd’s bag contains things for hunting, protecting your flock, and also providing for yourself,

In the circumstance we’re considering, which is at 1 Sam 17:30, we’re looking at the Shepherd’s bag into which David put the 5 stones he picked at the Brook.

Many thanks for joining the class once again. Our subseries is titled weapons at the river. This class is titled, your bag of power.

Interestingly, the same word translated as bag in 1 Sam 17:40 is also translated as 5 or 6 other beautiful things in other portions of scriptures. The word translated as bag is also translated as jewels, weapons, vessels, instruments, armour, and even armour bearer.

Now, let’s recap a bit and refresh our memories of what the Shepherd’s bag is, as we explained it in the last class. That Shepherd’s bag could be seen as our own repository of God’s Revelations that come handy when we are faced with situations that demand spiritual action and power. So, we have to consciously make word deposits, just like saving money in the bank, for later days, like ‘saving for rainy days’.

You have to consciously make word deposits into that repository. Notice that this is exactly what we’re doing as we study this. Everytime you study the word purposely, listen to sermons purposely, and extract Revelations minister to you, everytime you hear a word from God and keep it, everytime you hear a testimony and personalized it, and say, Lord You’re awesome, you did this, you can do it in my life. Every Time you do this, you’re making deposits into your Shepherd’s bag.

You cannot give what you don’t have, and so if you think there’s no problem now,and you just go, gallivanting around without the consciousness of God’s presence, if you take a break from your Bible, and say there’s no trouble for now, you put yourself at risk. May you not be weak in the day of adversity.

Psalm 20 says, the Lord heard thee in the days of trouble, the name of the God of Jacob defend thee. Send thee help from His sanctuary and strengthen you out of Zion.

That is what happens when you make deposits into your spiritual repository. God will always help you, but don’t wait until there’s trouble, or until there’s a pressing need before you start searching the scripture for that word that will fit your situation. Why not make it a lifestyle, creating that repository, making deposits into your own Shepherd’s bag. Your bag of power.

Is it a physical bag? We could liken it to a bag where you keep your Bible, jotter, etc. But really, you are that bag. YOU ARE THAT BAG OF POWER.

Your spirit man must be kept alive. You’re not permitted to take a break from God or His word. You’re not permitted to take a break from reading the Bible or hearing from God. You cannot take a break from breaking Revelations in the scriptures. Bible says,

2 Corinthians 3:18
[18]But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

You’re not permitted to take a break from God. When you take a break, there’d be nothing in your repository. So, you must consciously make a word and encounter deposits into your Shepherd’s bag. You can only deliver what you have, when it’s needed.

Today, we see interestingly that the word translated as bag in 1 Sam 17:40 is also translated as jewels, weapons, vessels, instruments, armour and even armour bearer in other parts of scriptures.

Our topic for today is YOUR BAG OF POWER.

I’m saying you’re the bag because it’s in you. Don’t begin to say, well, I’m not a pastor, so I don’t need that Shepherd’s bag. In this situation, you’re the bag. You’re the repository. You’re depositing God’s word into yourself, strengthening yourself, for when you’ll need it. It may not always be that you’ll be in trouble, it could be someone else who needs an urgent manifestation. God will always manitest at the instance of his word.

So, let’s go over them one after the other.

1. JEWELS – Gen 24:53

If you check the strong’s concordance, you’ll see That the word translated as bag in 1 Sam 17:40 is also translated as JEWEL in Gen 24:53

Genesis 24:52
[52]And it came to pass that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.

Talking about Abraham’s servant here.

The next thing he did was to bring out Jewels of silver, gold and clothing and gave them to Rebekah and her brother, and also her mother.

Genesis 24:53
[53]And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he also gave to her brother and to her mother precious things.

So, the same word translated as bag is also translated as Jewels. It tells you how precious this is. So, are you loading your bag of power? 1 Sam 17:40 calls it the shepherd’s bag, but we’re seeing it as your bag of power.

2. WEAPON – Gen 27:3

You know we’ve been talking about weapons at the river. In Gen 27:3

Genesis 27:3
[3]Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

This is Isaac talking to Esau. It again tells you how precious this Shepherd’s bag is. Your bag of power. You are the bag of power. You must be conscious of that. What are the contents of this bag? The word of God, rhema, by staying with the word and internalizing it. Consciously, purposely and intentionally. Every word you hear stores in you. Please do not leave yourself unguarded or vulnerable. You leave yourself vulnerable when you’re not consciously making deposits into that bag of power, which is you.

This is Isaac telling Esau to take his weapon. It means that bag of power, that Shepherd’s bag serves for you, as a weapon. Remember it’s this same weapon he used to kill an animal for Isaac to eat. He was supplanted by his brother at first, but he later got powerful.

3. VESSELS – Exodus 40:9-10

Exodus 40:9-10
[9]And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.

This Shepherd’s bag, makes in you a Holy vessel..When you consciously make word deposits into this bag of power. You know Bible says you shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost comes upon you in Acts 1:8

It means, you are the bag of power. When the power enters you, you become the carrier of that power. You are the bag of power. Hallelujah. So this bag of power makes you a vessel. Please don’t leave yourself lying fallow, not consciously making deposits into that vessel of yours. Deposits like rhema that you get from God’s word, personal revelations testimonies that you have personalized. It could even be other people’s testimonies. When you invoke these, it comes naturally and spontaneously, the right words to speak, come out of your spirit. Hallelujah!

When you check the strong’s concordance, that root word translated ‘bag’ is ‘Keliy’ in the Hebrew and it means all these that we’re listing.

We’ve seen it as weapons, now, let’s see it as vessels.

God’s word is so explicit. Please check out verse 10 also.

[10]And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy.

4. INSTRUMENTS – Gen 49:5

All these refer to what you need to conquer the enemy in the face of challenges. It’s your power. Hallelujah.

Genesis 49:5
[5]Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.

5. ARMOUR & ARMOUR-BEARER – 1 Sam 14:1&6 ; 1 Sam 14:7&12

Already, the Bible says put on the whole armour of God. The armour is an instrument of defence.

1 Samuel 14:1,6
[1]Now it came to pass upon a day that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.

[6]And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.

What a word!

Father, we thank you. We’re conscious from today of our status as a bag of power. The power of God enters us and we become a carrier of all these things. We become weapons, vessels, instruments, jewels, armours, and we make conscious deposits to become all of these. Father, we thank you. In Jesus name we have prayed. Amen. Hallelujah.

The word of God is strong, but you need to have Jesus in your life to realize all of these. If you’re ready for him, he’s ready to make you a bag of power.

Just say Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I repent of my sins and I forsake them. I accept you as my Lord and savior. Write my name in your book of Life. From today, I become a bag of power, in the name of Jesus . Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen. – Congratulations, welcome to God’s kingdom.

Let’s meet again in the next class by God’s grace. Amen!

If you’re not used to speaking the word when there’s no trouble, then your declarations will lack requisite power in the face of challenges. If you’re not used to speaking peace when there is calmness, then your declarations of peace will lack capacity in the face of challenges. God cannot be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap.

Here’s another way to look at it. Reaching out into your Shepherd’s pouch, into your store, your repository of revelations from God, comes naturally. God’s word that you have stored in you flows out of your mouth, out of you, naturally when it’s needed.

We will continue very quickly with the sub-series we started. Remember out main series is still ‘COME, DRINK – If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink – John 7:37-38

We have been taking this series, subseries by subseries. In this sub series, we’re looking at weapons at the river. In the last class, we saw how David got to the river and picked the stones he needed to fight Goliath and defeat him. We saw there that he picked 5 stones and we saw the reasons why he had to pick stones from the river and not elsewhere.

When we started that discussion, we quickly saw that when David picked the 5 stones in 1 Sam 17:39-40, he put them in his shepherd’s bag

1 Samuel 17:40

And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook,

And what did he do?

And put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

So, in this class, we’ll be looking at the Shepherd’s bag, or the Shepherd’s pouch. You may want to say, shepherds mean leaders and pastors. Yes, but the Bible says He has made us Kings and priests unto our God and we shall reign in the earth. That’s Rev 5:10.

Revelation 5:10
[10]And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Whatever grace available to spiritual leaders, pastors, is available to everyone. Jesus Christ said in Mark 13:37 says that what he’s saying to one , he’s saying to all. So, the Shepherd’s pouch/bag is what every believer should have. It is that repository or deposit of God’s word and Revelations that you have received from Him personally, or even corporately or jointly. If it’s not gotten personally, then it must be that you have treasured it personally.

The Shepherd’s bag implies that we have to consciously select and keep filling our repository with God’s word, direction, instruction. We’ll definitely need to draw power from there at all times. Please don’t think you can just wake up all of a sudden and swallow God’s word just as you swallow medicine when you’re sick. You don’t begin to look for scriptures to quote or memorize the moment there’s trouble at hand. God responds at such times by His Mercy. You get real victory when you make it a lifestyle to consciously and consistently store up your Shepherd’s bag.

Just like David selected 5 stones from the Brook and kept them in the Shepherd’s bag. Today, we’re focusing on that instrument called the Shepherd’s bag. We are interpreting it by the Holy Spirit, to be your repository of God’s word.

Bible says in Matt 12:34 that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. So, what’s the abundance of your own heart? Many stock their own repository with so many other things – Music lyrics, not even gospel music, worldly slangs, fear from daily news. Fear from the economy.

Joshua 1:8 has said that this book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate therein day and night. The Shepherd’s pouch is the totality of word instruments to make sure that God’s word gets into you and stays there. Things he has shown you while you studied personally, while you listened to His word, words that impressed power on you while you stayed in God’s presence.

Luke 6:45 says

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

REMEMBER, the Bible has instructed that we guard our heart with diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life. It means that your heart is the Shepherd’s bag we’re talking about here.

David already had this Shepherd’s bag, because he was a shepherd. Now, he’s going to need that Shepherd’s bag because he has to fight Goliath and kill him. At the point where he picked the stones, Goliath was not at that location. Yet, he picked the stones and kept them in his shepherd’s bag.

You may not seemingly have battles to fight now, something may be coming in the spirit realm, and you don’t even need to worry about it, as long as you’re consciously filling your repository with God’s word, and Revelations.

Back to 1 Sam 17:40, in times of trouble or need, we can only place demands on God’s word that we have stored up before then. The Shepherd’s bag is our store of personal encounters, Revelations from him, and testimonies of His manifestations in our lives and in other people’s lives that we have internalized and personalized.

That’s Shepherd’s pouch in which David kept his 5 stones , was the same thing he reached out to, when the time came to kill Goliath.

In 1 Sam 17:49 When it was the exact time you used the stones, he didn’t hesitate, because he had previously, consciously stored the stones there.

1 Samuel 17:48-49
[48]And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

[49]And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

Check out verse 49, David dipped his hand into the shepherd’s bag. Brethren, please from today, always dip your hand into your spiritual repository. How do you do that? You pause, keep quiet, and peep into your spirit, and there’s a word waiting for you from God, that you had previously stored in that repository, into your Shepherd’s bag. That’s what you need to reject or reverse sudden unwanted situations the devil serves towards you. The word comes out of your mouth and spontaneously, you get instant manifestations. It doesn’t just happen, by chance. You must have consciously filled your cloud with water, before rain can fall. You must have consciously filled your Shepherd’s bag with stones to be able to draw from it in the face of sudden appearance of a Goliath. Hallelujah.

Let’s look at this. In Psalms 20,verses 1-4

Psalms 20:1-4

[1](To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

This is powerful. May we not fall into trouble, but Bible already says watch and pray, so you don’t fall into temptations. Part of your watching and praying is to be able to reach out into your repository and recall a word or an encounter for your situation, when there’s a need for it.

The name of the God of Jacob defends you – That’s what happens when you reach out into your Shepherd’s bag. Your spirit comes alive at the instance of God’s word, an encounter, a testimony that you invoked from your spiritual repository.

You can say, Lord you once told me this; there must be a reversal now; I’m confident I’m coming out victorious, because I’ve been there before and you saw me through.

[2]Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;

When you reach out into your Shepherd’s bag, suddenly strength comes, help comes in that situation.

[3]Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.

Excuse me, what if there had not been any offering? That’s one of the things you store in your Shepherd’s bag. Your offerings. Everytime you give an offering, you’re also stocking your Shepherd’s bag, your repository. Your sacrifices towards God’s kingdom also help to stock up your Shepherd’s bag.

In Isaiah 38:1-5, when God Sent prophet Isaiah to tell Hezekiah that he was going to die, Hezekiah turned to the wall and reminded God of his sacrifice towards him. Instantly, God sent Isaiah again to reverse this message.

[4]Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.

Hallelujah!! You know we had seen in the beginning that out of Abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, that’s Matt 12:34 and Luke 6:45..Now, we see here in Psalms 20:4 – “Grant thee according to your heart and fulfil all thy counsel”.

According to your heart means according to what you have stored in your repository. It comes spontaneously. If you have stored nothing there, no strength can be drawn. May you not lack strength in the day of trouble. You have power and strength in such days when you have consciously made deposits into your Shepherd’s bag, just like depositing money into your bank account. When you need money urgently, all you need is to make withdrawals. If there’s no deposit, there can be no withdrawals.

After both of them had thrown words at themselves in 1 Sam 17:43-47 where Goliath had cursed David with his gods and David also talked back and prophesied that he will kill Goliath and cut off his head.

Then it was time for action, in verse 48, Goliath advanced towards David to fulfil his threat, but David also ran towards him and in verse 49,

HE DIPPED HIS HAND INTO HIS BAG TOOK OUT A STONE. That’s it!

It’s one thing to speak by faith, but it’s another thing to reach out into your repository and strengthen your words of faith with the word of God. It’s the word of God in your proclamation that the devil fears. It could be a testimony provoking God to action.

“God, you did this, some time ago, and you’re still alive, to do it again.’

1 Samuel 17:46-47
[46]This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

[47]And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.

Those words were powerful, David had done well, and decreed Goliath’s death because he has defied the God of hosts,.

But he didn’t just stop there and do nothing, when the Philistines drew near, David wasn’t perturbed, he even ran towards him a
AND THEN reached into his repository and pulled out one of the 5 stones he had stored there.

Just one word is what you need to take control of every situation.. Situations happen and if you’re not in control, events fall over one another and get out of hands. May you not be without a stone in the face of an emergent Goliath, in Jesus Name.

1 Samuel 17:49
[49]And David put his hand in his bag, and took the stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

At the instance of God’s word, all situations and Goliath’s will fall dead before you in Jesus Name.

If you do not yet have Jesus, you don’t even have a Shepherd’s pouch. May your spirit not be empty when you need a word desperately in a situation. If you want God’s word to work for you at any time, please come to Jesus Today. If you’ve received him before and you need to rededicate your life, this is also for you.

Say Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I accept you as my Lord and saviour. I repent of my sins and I forsake them. I’m ready and I accept you into my life. Forgive my sins, make me whole and write my name into your book of Life. From today, I’m a child of God, I’m free. In Jesus’ name, we’ve prayed. Amen.

We need to stop seeking physical solutions to spiritual problems or explaining away our spirituality at the mercy of science, diplomacy or political correctness.

The Bible says in 2 Pet 1:3-4, let’s look at that scripture very quickly before we flow into today’s class.

2 Peter 1:3-4

[3]According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

[4]Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

He has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness. So as believers, our first point of call should be the spirit. Our first point of call should be the word. When issues happen, you shouldn’t think first about what the dictionary says or what some wise sage has said. You should think first about what the Bible says. What has God told you about that issue? What is he telling you now? What is His word saying concerning that situation?

Now, I’m not saying that physical solutions do not suffice, but I’m saying that you fight a battle from the realm of the spirit. You win it there first. Please don’t get me right, the world may not understand you and really they’re not supposed to understand you always.

Even Jesus says, “they will hate you because they hated me first” – John 15:18

The reason for this admonition is that we are spirits, so when we approach issues, let’s always put God first, and every other concern will fall in place. David refused to confront Goliath with Saul’s armour. Isn’t that surprising. We’re looking today at the example set for us by David. Look at how David interpreted our anchor scripture – If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. Here’s what David did at the river. He picked up his weapon of warfare. Hallelujah!

David Refused to accept King Saul’s armour in 1 Sam 17:39, because he’s picking up his own armour in Verse 40. Today’s anchor scripture is 1 Sam 17:40 and our topic is:

WEAPONS AT THE RIVER

In verse 39, David refused to confront Goliath with Saul’s armour. Instead, he turned to the river and picked 5 stones. The Bible says, he picked 5 smooth stones. He killed Goliath with just one of those 5 stones. He believed God and killed Goliath with that instead of relying on what he was offered, instruments he doesn’t trust. He rather turned to the river and picked 5 stones. He still used a sword afterwards though.

So you see what I’m saying. I’m not saying for examples that the physical solutions should be discarded totally, David still used a sword, but I’m saying that for them to work for you, you must first, embrace God’s leading and wait for a spiritual remedy. For example again, I’m not saying that drugs or medicine won’t work for your healing, but Trust God as your healer and not the drugs. Even where the drugs seem to work for you, It’s because God is involved, otherwise, they won’t work and if you believe God to an extent, you get to a level where you receive your healing without taking drugs. You faith graduates gradually to a level where you don’t even fall I’ll, you’re living in divine health. Hallelujah.

Here’s another example. I’m not saying that the counsel of your psychologist, strategists and advisers should be thrown away, but rather I’m saying that the Holy Spirit’s counsel, leading you directly, should be sought first and obeyed in any matter. That you get direction through his word and through His voice speaking to you. Understand that your are a spirit and let the Holy spirit lead you on what physical counsel you should follow, or who you should take counsel from.

David believed God and killed Goliath with that. Now did he use the physical recommendation from Saul. Yes he did, he still used a sword to cut off Goliath’s head, but that was when he was already dead. And besides, he didn’t use Saul’s own sword he used Goliath’s sword.

Now, had he followed the initial recommendation of Saul, it would have been impossible for him to pick any Stone from the Brook. If he had carried Saul’s armour, he would be too heavy to use it.

We’re not telling you to discard seeking physical solutions totally But Ask God first, then he will tell you what to do and which of the alternatives to choose from.

Every problem has a spiritual dimension. If the spiritual dimension is not solved, the physical manifestations remain. We know that the knowledge of science, medicine, logic , etc is given by God, but then seek God first and solve the problems on the spiritual front first, because you’re a spirit being and everything answers to the spirit.

If you aren’t born again yet, please come to him. Most challenges are solved just by setting aside time to pray. instead of worry, just pray. We have already talked about the river of prayer. Now, we’re telling us to be more attentive and sensitive to the Holy Spirit leading us and every other thing around us will align with the spiritual.

Bible says, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
[4](For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

[5]Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Please flip over to that scripture. Don’t get too familiar to the Word of God, always open the Bible even when you already know what’s there. So are you there? Please read it.

Your strategy is not carnal. You may have read several books on how to do that which you’re doing. But if God drops just one idea into your head as to which customers you should Target in your business and how you should Target them, the results will be tremendous and people will ask you of how you did it. When people ask you, please, don’t take the glory or claim it’s your strategies that worked. Don’t usurp the glory meant for God. Just say, “God helped me, He led me”, before you begin sharing the wisdom he helped you with. And when you do, let the world know it wasn’t your power or might, but His spirit. That’s a quick lesson by the way.

David understood this very clearly. Let’s return to establish this point again. That was how David interpreted the scripture. David went to the river. 1 Sam 17:40 tells us that David picked 5 smooth stones at the Brook. David picked weapons of his warfare. So the river again is the place where you should pick your weapon of warfare, where you should pick your solutions first.

Genesis 2:7 says the Lord God formed man from the dust of the earth. God breathed His spirit into you. You’re a spirit having a soul living in a body.

In 1 Sam 17:40, the Bible says David took his staff in his hand. He already had a staff, but then he still went to the Brook to select smooth stones.

Please let’s establish here that the word translated Brook, in 1 Sam 17:40 is also translated as river in Leviticus 1:19 and 11:10 and also in Psalms 36:8

Psalms 36:8
[8]They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

So the Brook here is actually the river we’ve been talking about. Oh!, We have a lot to gain at the river. So much is packed at the river. So, Jesus meant business when he said, if any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink.

At the river, David picked his own weapons of warfare. But the question is, why did he have to pick stones from the Brook and not somewhere else? Here’s the reason.

You see, the stones at the brook are constantly refreshed and washed. In other words, they are always sharpened by the currents of water. You know, as water flows at the river bank, those stones are in constant movement, sharpening themselves, in other words, when you’re always at the river, waiting on God , listening to the spirit, you get Information that is updated and refreshed.

Some people would say, that is what God told me 5 years ago. But are you sure that what God is saying 5 years ago, is what He is still saying now. Are you sure there has not been any update. Of course God is a speaking spirit and He’s always speaking, but what He told you 5 years ago, might have another dimension or updated version for the now.

Of course, God’s word is yea and Amen and He remains the same. If he told you to start a ministry 5 years ago, now, he may be telling you to expand and enlarge your coast. But if you’re holding onto the instruction gotten 5 years ago, without refreshing yourself and your spirit at the river everyday, you won’t get updated versions of that instruction. If you do, you get new directions entirely.

So, the stones at the Brook are in constant movement, sharpening themselves. That’s why David picked his stones from the Brook, instead of picking them elsewhere. The stones he picked had sharp edges, and just one of them was enough to pierce the forehead of Goliath and kill him.

When you’re in constant connection with the river, you are refreshed always. And your weapons of warfare are always sharpened. Please come to the river today if your weapon is appearing blunt. Say Lord, I sharpen my weapon. I refresh my spirit at the river , in the name of Jesus. Come and renew your weapon!

So, once again , We need to stop seeking physical solutions to spiritual problems or explaining away our spirituality at the mercy of science or diplomacy or political correctness.

Your body and soul answers to the spirit.

If you’re saying yes to the spirit’s call, or you haven’t given your life to Jesus, then I want you to come to Him today. Your spirit will report back to God at the end of your race.

Say Lord Jesus, I come to the Brook. Your word says, those who seek you will find you. I repent of my sins and I receive you as my Lord and Savior. From today, I will continue in your ways. My name is written in the book of Life. Thank you Lord. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

You’re welcome to the Kingdom of God. Read your Bible and pray everyday.

Thank you for following the class till the end. Let’s continue in the next class by the grace of God. Bye for now. Amen.

Many thanks for joining the class once again. This is the 29th lesson in the series – Come, Drink – If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and Drink – John 7:37

And we have been talking about drinking water right from the beginning of the series, up till the 25th lesson. Then we decided to take a look at the twin part of that same statement in John 7:37-38

John 7:37 says, in the last day, the great day of the feast, the Lord Jesus stood up and cried saying, if any man thirst let him come unto me and drink. We have really drawn virtue and function from that statement all along.

Then in verse 38 of that same John 7, he said, He that believes in me, out of his bellies shall flow rivers of living water. So, we immediately started looking at the other occurrences of that statement.

He that believeth, In John 4:14, He had said that everyone who drinks of the water he has will never thirst again. Let’s quickly flip over to John 4:14. It has been interesting since we started this sub-series, talking about those that believe.

We have also seen that he that believes will never thirst, he that believes will do greater works than me (Jesus), he that believes has everlasting life.

But in this class we’re saying, He that believes in me, HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD.

Lets flip to 1 John 5:4

1 John 5:4-5
[4]For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

[5]Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

If you believe that Jesus is the son of God, you have overcome the world. Not that you will overcome, you have already overcome. We are in a battle that is already biased on our behalf. We are fighting a battle whose outcome is already determined. Bible says, he that believes, overcomes the world.

He that believes overcomes the world.

In 1 John 5:4, Bible says

4]For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

So we’re still revolving around faith. Because he’s saying here that whoever is born of God overcomes the world and that victory that overcomes the world is our faith. In other words, if you do not have faith, you are at risk. What we need to gain access to that triumph he has triumphed on our behalf is our faith.

Please take a look very quickly at 1 Pet 2:6. He has made everything available for us. Our study is in-depth because we want to milk his word as much as we can

1 Peter 2:6
[6]Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

The living Bible says, he that BELIEVETH shall not be disappointed. The Bible says in Psalms 34 that they looked into him and they were lightened and their faces were not put to shame. This tells you that our faith has delivered to us what we need to overcome in any situation. You know we are overcomers. We have overcome the world. Greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world – 1 John 4:4

And Jesus Christ Himself speaking in John 16:33, said that, in this world you shall have tribulations, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world. So, he has overcome the world, but what we need to gain access to that victory is our faith. He says in 1 John 5:4 that whatever is born of God overcomes the world, and our faith is that victory that overcomes the world.

QUESTION: DO YOU BELIEVE?

Looks simple, right? But do you really believe that you have overcome the world? Because he says here in that 1 Pet 2:6, which we just read, that those who believe in him WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED – Living Bible

Whatever is looking like a form of disappointment on your way, the Bible says, he that believes shall not be ashamed. That’s how the message Bible Puts it.

So Disappointment or shame is never your portion. He that believes! You just need to stand your ground and dig into God’s work and stand on what it says, even where you aren’t seeing it yet.

Remember Martha in John 11:21-22. Martha has not overcome her doubt completely, but she declared the little she had. Remember Bible says with faith as small as a grain of mustard, you will command mountains to move into the sea and they will obey you – Matt 17:20

Martha said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou had been here, my brother would have lived. Verse 22 says, BUT I KNOW, that whatever you ask of God, He will do it.

That statement – BUT I KNOW, invoked the power of faith. That confidence and assurance, swung Jesus into DECREEING in the next verse that “YOUR BROTHER SHALL RISE AGAIN”

In verse 24, she diminished in her faith, but thank God , the Lord Jesus brought her out of that.

I’m telling you today in this class, that if you can just stand in the world and proclaim that “I KNOW” That in this situation you will come through for me, then God Himself will respect his word and reply by saying that which you have asked “IS DONE”.

When we do so, pls don’t allow the devil to come then, and diminish your faith through doubt, just like Martha did in John 11:24. Jesus told Martha, your brother will rise now, and not until the last day of resurrection. Because I am that resurrection and the life.

Bible says NOW, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:1

So, there you have it, He that believes overcomes the world. You have overcome Jesus Name.

We mustn’t end this without welcoming you to Jesus, because to overcome, you must believe. You must believe with your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and you shall be saved – (Rom 10:10). That’s when you’re guaranteed to overcome it.

Say Lord Jesus, I believe in Jesus, I repent of my sins and forsake them. I Confess and accept him as my Lord and Saviour. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Congratulations. Welcome into God’s kingdom. And until next time, when we continue, by God’s grace, Bye for now. Amen.

One evidence that your faith is active, that it is living faith is that it brings responsibility. Faith always brings you responsibility. We’ve been talking about He who believes in Jesus.

He who believes in me, out of his bellies shall flow rivers of living water. He who believes in me shall never thirst. He who believes in me shall have everlasting life. All of that is ours for the taking, it’s ours to enjoy. You will never thirst because Jesus Christ has thirst on the cross. Then He said It is finished. Thirst is a feeling of need, or want. But it is finished means, it’s done, You already have what you need. And that’s what Jesus Christ has done for us. When you believe, you have access to all that.

And also, everlasting life, which is not just life without end, but good quality life, Both which we have been given by virtue of our faith, the moment we accept Jesus.

In John 11:21-22, when Martha said, “I KNOW”, Jesus responded with an affirmation of her expectation.

When you invoke that acknowledgement, you’re invoking Everlasting life into that situation. This is just a summary of the last class.

Welcome everyone. This is the 28th Lesson in our series, Come, Drink, and the 3rd lesson in the sub-series, He who believes.

We got this from the twin statement of Jesus in John 7:37-38, which is our main series anchor scripture. In verse 38, Jesus said, He who believes in me, out of his bellies shall flow rivers of living waters. So, we followed that trail of “He who believes”!

In this class, we’re learning that faith brings you responsibility. You cannot claim to believe and remain idle. People who believe, you know by what they do. The Bible says faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith, the elders received a good report. Faith is not what you have and go lazy or idle. You know those who have faith by the actions they are committed to.

If you believe, you will do the work that I do. John 14:12. That’s the word for today. Here’s John 14:12,very clearly.

[12]Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

He who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do. So our Lord Jesus has given us responsibility. You believe in me, ok, do my work. In fact, I give you the authority to do greater works. That’s how you know people who believe. You see them doing the works of Jesus. You never find them idle, not doing the works of Jesus.

He who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do.

So, if you’re idle and waiting for something to fall on you like fruit from the tree, please wake up and start doing the works of Jesus. Work for him, work in his vineyard, preach his gospel, raise people in the kingdom. He who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do. That’s responsibility, introduced into the faith equation.

It’s not something you just ask and receive, and just like that. You must also get working. Bible says expressly in James 2:26, that faith without works is dead

James 2:26
[26]For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Take a look at that comparison made in James 2:26. It’s quite interesting. The Bible compared one who has faith but not doing anything to a body that has no spirit in it. May you not be an empty body without life, without spirit. Faith without works is dead. It just won’t work. There’s responsibility introduced into the equation.

We already know from our previous classes that yes, when you believe, you never thirst, and when you believe, you have everlasting life. But also, when you believe, you will do the works that Jesus did. You will identify with him, and with His kingdom. That’s how we know that you believe.

You don’t need to define this too much. When you see people who have faith, you will know. People with faith will not sleep and wake u daily without laying their hands on anything.

If you believe, then will do his work. This Means working for his kingdom to grow. That’s one way to look at it. Jesus has licenced us to do the works that he didn’t even do.

So, what are the works that Jesus did? He taught, he peached, he gave, he raised the dead, he rebuked, and he has committed all to us to do even more.

Please flip over to John 9:4, talking about the works. Let’s hear what Jesus Himself said concerning the works.

John 9:1-5
[1]And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

[2]And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

[3]Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

[4]I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

[5]As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

In other words, all the challenges and troubles you see around you are ways through which God wants to manifest His works through you. So, don’t run away from every situation and say there’s trouble. The reason why God is bringing you around people who need help is because He wants to use you to prove himself in their lives. The disciples asked Jesus of the reason the man was blind. He told them it was no one’s sin that caused it, but so that the works of God may be manifested through him.

Why do you face challenges here and there? Why do you think you’re passing through all that? It is so that the work of God may be manifested through those situations, it’s for you to rise up and do the works that Jesus did, given those circumstances.

Here’s what Jesus said in verse 4,

I must do the work of Him that sent me while it is day, because when the night comes, no one can work.

So, you do the work while you can. You are very active now, what are you doing for him? How are you showing that you believe? The only way to identify with that power is what you do. The works of God. What you do for Him. It’s not being legalistic. We’re only aligning and identifying with Jesus Christ.

He who believes in me, the works that I did, he will do. Perhaps you need to list out the works that Jesus did. And then ask yourself, which among them am I currently doing. Is it his teaching, preaching, His giving, healing, deliverance, and so one. Which of these works are you doing currently into? Jesus multiplied 5 loaves and 2 fishes to feed thousands of people. How are you multiplying the resources he has given you , to be a blessing to people around you?

If you believe in me, the works that I did, you will do, and even greater works

Then in verse 5, he said

[5]As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

As long as you’re in this world, if you do not lighten your lamp, the world around you will remain in darkness. Can you say it aloud to yourself, that as long as I’m in this world, I will do His works, as long as I’m in this family, no one will lack. As long as i’m in this company, people will receive Jesus and be pulled out of sin. As long as I’m in this church, God’s work will grow big on my hands.

As long as I’m in this world, I’m the light of the world.

That talks about owning the space God has given you. Owning the responsibility he has committed into your hands. As long as I’m a teacher in this class, these children will receive the life of God and learn the right lessons to live an enviable future.

You need to live your life at every point in time as if you are the only one God is looking up to in that situation to do his will. You remember the story of Esther and Mordecai. Mordecai told Esther that she can’t afford to relax because she’s a queen, while her people get condemned to death. And that she should remember that God has raised her for a time like this, to rescue the people from destruction. That she must not fail. May we not fail our generations..

Let’s begin to own whatever responsibility God has placed in our hands, as that is the evidence of our faith.

He who believes in me, the works that I did, he will do. And not just that, greater works, he will do. So, if we do exactly what He did, we’ve not done enough, he has licenced us with an open cheque to do even greater than He did. Hallelujah!

Jesus earthly ministry was just 3 and a half years. But he has given us several more years to do the works that he did. He has committed a lot into our hands. There’s no limit to how far you can go in Him. Greater works! That’s an open cheque. We can do far greater than he did.

He who believes in me, the works that I did, he will do. Greater work, than mine, he will do.

Also remember James 2:26, that says faith without works is dead. Your works will not be dead in Jesus Name. So, don’t just declare that you have faith, when there’s no work to show for it.

Father, we thank you for this class. We believe and we begin to do your works. We will preach, teach, heal, raise the dead, cast out demons, we will bless people, and multiply the resources you gave us, in Jesus name. We will not be idle, you will meet us believing and doing your will in Jesus name. And as we do it we’re blessed. Thank you Lord, in Jesus Name. Amen.

You cannot leave this class without receiving Jesus. It is when you accept him that you start the journey to doing the works of Jesus and doing greater works.

Say Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I’m ready to receive you as my Lord and saviour. I repent of my sins and I forsake them. I ask that you forgive all my sins. I receive your forgiveness and I’m cleansed with your blood. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. My name is written in the book of Life. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Congratulations. Let’s meet again in the next class, by God’s grace. Amen.
