If you do not look for something, you cannot find it. Even when opportunities appear in whatever your are involved with, there are chances you’ll lose them, if you weren’t looking for such opportunities in the first place.
Now, our focus is on the spirit, because whatever happens for you in the spirit realm is what can happen in the physical. So, you need to look. Question: What am I looking for ?
In Rev 4:1, Bible says, John Looked! Meaning he paid attention to the spirit. That was when he heard he spirit’s voice, then he was called to come up higher, and then he was immediately invited into the spirit. Thereafter, he had a major breakthrough, he received a whole book of revelations. Hallelujah. What you need is a breakthrough, in the spirit. It starts by paying attention to what the spirit is saying to you. Looking purposefully!
Looking is praying, to get answers and not just for the fun of it. Praying, to hear what the spirit is telling you and see what he’s showing you – Have 2:1.
1 Kings 18:43-44 – Elijah prayed, but he didn’t just pray, he paid attention too, he sent his servant to look for the clouds, continuously, until there was rain. So looking is praying with an expectation of faith. Praying, but taking Steps in confidence and refusing to quit. Staying steadfast to God’s course, until there’s a breakthrough..
They looked unto him and we’re lightened, and their faces were not put to shame. – Ps 34:5 – You’re to look into God’s word and search as though something we’re lost, that you need to find.
Look into the perfect law of liberty – James 1:25. There you have it. Hallelujah. Keep looking, look into God’s word a little further, your miracle is just a page away!.
Daddy G.O. Pastor E.A. Adeboye once said that there’s space at the top for everyone who is interested. That statement got me thinking since I heard it.
It opened to me that although God has a part to pay in our lifting, He will not be biased about the part we have to play. The better you play your part, the higher you will climb. So, you can determine your height, by your own self. He has made available the same resources to everyone. The difference in our heights is how much we yeild ourselves to his help at utilizing those spiritual resources.
Remember, our series is – I AM SPIRIT
Now, in this class, we see that there’s a deep correlation between obedience and being in the spirit, just as there’s a connection between being in the spirit and going up higher.
Revelations 3:22 and 4:1 show us that difference. At first, John says he that has an ear, let him hear what the spirit is saying to the churches. Then the very next verse, He heard the voice to come up higher, and then the very next verse again, He was in the spirit.
The point is, if you don’t hear God , then you don’t know what to obey. You may be doing what is good in your sight, but that may not be exactly what you need to get to the top. This series gets a new twist from here. I pray that God’s spirit will floor our hearts as we continue in Jesus Name.
Revelation 22:8-9 is the last occurrence of the word worship in the Bible and it shows us, perhaps the deepest meaning of worship.. There, we see the angel rejecting John’s worship, but instructing him to direct such to God.
John wanted to worship him for showing him all that he just saw in the book of revelations, but the angel insisted that He worshipped God instead. This shows us the deepest meaning of worship. God alone deserves our worship and adoration. And we must never share that with any one. And you see, we must acknowledge his Lordship, and worship Him every time, for everything He is and everything He does.
From today, begin to route all your thanksgiving, all your adoration, and worship to him and Him alone. He deserves it 24 hours of the day. Never ascribe glory to any other thing in life. God made everything happen, dispute your inadequacies.
Bible says in Rev 4:10-11 that the 24 elders, despite their high estate, fell down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns (their high estates, their achievements, etc) before the throne, saying,
O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Satan got dethroned from heaven because he wouldn’t worship God – Isaiah 14:12-15, Luke 10:18
That’s how worthy God is. Please bow down now, and worship Him!
There’s something deeper than sacrifice Its Obedience. worship is obedience
Let’s go back go back to the story of Abraham because we see that another dimension to it. Abraham wanted to obey God at all cost. You know his obedience drove him to go and sacrifice Isaac. So when he said, he’s going to the mountain to worship, he simply went ahead to obey God to the letter, by sacrificing Isaac. so worship is total obedience to God’s instruction.
If you look very well, you’d realize that the best moments of your life are the times when people celebrate you, just because they want to celebrate you. Not because you did something special, or fantastic. We’ll, it’s fine, when you’re celebrated for one achievement of the other. You’re happy with that.
But you see, when people just come around you and say, ‘well, we just celebrate you. Perhaps on your birthday, by surprise. Or perhaps, on your wedding anniversary. Just celebrating your person. Not for any particular good you’ve done for them, but just celebrating you. You feel very excited and honoured. You feel important to yourself, that ‘wow! So I’m this important’.
I believe that’s how God feels when we worship Him and show him gratitude. He’ll feel, ‘wow! So this my child appreciates the fact that I’m his/her creator.
In the last few classes, we’ve been proclaiming – I AM SPIRIT!
Do you know, that’s a message from God to you. Spirits are not inanimate. They have feelings. God has feelings too. He has a personality. From the beginning of this class, I want God’s personality to come alive in you, and stay alive in you, 24/7, in Jesus Name. Amen!
You should worship him, that’s what sustains His personality in you. God is Spirit, and you should worship him. You shouldn’t worship or revere any other spirit. God alone deserves all your worship and none other.
Your first response to His Spirit personality, is your worship. We’ve established earlier in Job 32:8, that there’s a spirit in Man and the inspiration of God gives them understanding.. Apart from the fact that you’re spirit,
‘I AM SPIRIT’ – Is also God, proclaiming to you that, He is Spirit. He’s saying ‘Do you even know that I am Spirit?’
Then your response should be ‘I know Lord, and I worship you sir.’ So, let’s learn a thing or two about worship. What is worship?
First, how did we even know that God his spirit ? Jesus Christ said it himself, in John 4:24. He’s God the son, so no one else will know the father as much as he does.
There’s no other portion of the Bible where this is expressly stated, in such clear language as Jesus proclaims it in John 4:24.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Our Lord Jesus tried to drive home the point of worship in that scripture.
He’s saying in essence that God is Spirit, so if you’re going to worship him, you have to do so in spirit and in truth. He’s confirming to us that our very first response to God’s spirit nature is worship, in spirit. That should be your response to the understanding that God is spirit. Lord I Worship you. Please bow and worship him!
God has the ability to give spirits. He equally has the ability to terminate the same. It’s one of the reasons you should acknowledge him. But then you see, Bible instructs that we should worship God with Understanding. That understanding is what we want to pursue in this class.
For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
Let’s get that understanding right now. Again, what is worship?
DEFINITION: You can define it according to the dictionary, but I won’t go that route. I’ll be looking up the occurrences of the word ‘worship’ in the Bible, especially the first and last occurrences.
The first occurrence of the word ‘worship’ in the KJV Bible version is Gen 22:5 and the last is Rev 22:8 & 9
GOD IS SPIRIT, so, WORSHIP HIM! That’s our class for today.
Now, we start with Genesis 22:5
In this story, God had instructed Abraham to offer up Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham didn’t delay at all. He obeyed promptly. They travelled for 3 days and eventually arrived at the location for sacrifice.
Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
This is the first occurrence of the word worship in the Bible. Abraham, in other words, was telling his driver to stay with the car, while he and his son Isaac goes to worship God, and then return and set back for home. What does this worship imply here.?
According to that scripture, Abraham went onto that mountain, and Practically Sacrificed his most precious son, Isaac! Wow! That’s a strong one. Bible later confirms that since it wasn’t impossible for Abraham to sacrifice his own son of covenant, then God had no problems sacrificing Jesus Christ, His only begotten son.
Now, take a look at Hebrews 11:17. It paints the true picture of what Abraham did in Gen 22. It’s easy for us to read now, but seriously, Abraham actually ‘killed’ Isaac. But for God’s intervention by substituting the boy with a ram, Isaac would have been dead. Because Abraham was about to sacrifice him.
See Heb 11:17 established what actually transpired,
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
In verse 19, Bible says.
Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
That means Abraham offered up Isaac By faith. This confirms our meaning of worship. Hebrews 11:17-19 introduces the reason Abraham could worship. You know we’ve said that going to offer up Isaac was Abraham’s definition of Worship. We know this because he told his servants, he and the boy were going to the mountain to worship, and come back.
So, to him, going to worship meant going to kill Isaac. His own definition of worship is to go and kill his son. Abraham’s definition of worship, that is, his intention to sacrifice his most priced possession, will be our first definition of worship.
WORSHIP IS SACRIFICE THAT COMES FROM THE HEART, THAT COSTS SOMETHING.
The revelation from this is that when you worship God, he raises back to life, everything that’s dead in your life. That’s what happened with Abraham. Heb 11:19 says he knows that God was able to raise his son back from the dead.
And then again,
WORSHIP IS EVERY RESPONSE YOU GIVE TO GOD, IN FAITH!
Since Abraham offered up Isaac in faith, any response and everything you do with faith, is worship. For example, when you pray, believing, you’re worshiping. When you fast, believing that God has answered your prayer, you’re worshiping. As a matter of fact, fasting in itself, is worship, because it’s a form of sacrifice, giving up your fleshly pleasures for a period of time in exchange for a deeper level in God’s presence.
Furthermore, when you give or even praise God, believing, your sacrifice is accepted, you’re worshiping. Hear this, when you spend time with the scriptures, believing that God is speaking to you through His word, you’re worshiping. As long as you do it, in faith – faith in God – then you’re worshiping God, Hallelujah!
God is Spirit, so worship Him.
In summary, worship is everything you sacrifice to God, in FAITH.
Abraham sacrificed his son in faith, and he calls it worship. Issac was his most precious asset. Now, what’s your own most precious asset? What’s that thing that’s like a life string to you and no one dare touches it? For some of us, it’s our money. No one touches your Kobo. How much of your money goes into God’s kingdom. Did I even say ‘your money’? Of course He gave you that money. So, it’s ‘His Money’.
For many others, it’s one priced possession or the other. For others, it’s their time. ‘I’m so busy, I have no time’ is a slogan that looks modern and stylish. But the question is ‘busy doing what?’ How much of God is in your schedule? God gives of all things. He owns you and owns your time. He owns your money and everything you have.
What’s most precious to you ? Have you considered turning that over to God. I mean, making him decide how you use it. Giving him first place in everything. Your cars, houses, investments, properties, education, your spouse, your children, your time, everything! You think these things are material and not spiritual, right? Yet, God is interested in how you value them, use them, and/or distribute them. He wants you to value him more than these. Seek ye first the kingdom of God – Matt 6:33.
Hear David, in 2 Samuel 24:24.
And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
David insisted that he will not offer sacrifices unto God with what costs him nothing. He believes God deserves something that he (David) must feel, after giving it to HIM!
When you give up something unto God, and it costs you something, then that’s worship.
Let’s continue this in the next class. It’s very interesting, what we’re about to find out next. Henceforth, as you worship, everything lives in your life, in Jesus Name.
Father, we thank you for your word. Impart us with your spirit of worship in Jesus Name. Amen.
But before you start worshipping Him, your worship is only acceptable if you have Jesus as your Lord and savior. Remember Jesus was the one who introduced us to God as Spirit. And they that worship Him must worship do so in spirit and in truth. So if you don’t have Jesus, that definition, does not yet suffice in your life. I’d like you to come to Jesus today.
And if you’ve once been with Him, but have now drifted back and away, it’s time to come back home and rededicate your life to Jesus.
Say Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I believe your word that says God is spirit and now, I’m ready to worship you. I repent of my sins and I forsake them. I come to you and I accept you as my Lord and saviour. Receive me Lord. Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. In Jesus Name. Amen.
That’s it, Congratulations. GOD IS SPIRIT, so start worshiping Him.
