GIVE NO PLACE TO THE DEVIL | Eph 4:25-33 | LESSON 25 | DAVID ADENIJI

Home / GIVE NO PLACE TO THE DEVIL | Eph 4:25-33 | LESSON 25 | DAVID ADENIJI

Bible says give no place to the devil. Give no place at all to him. That’s in Ephesians 4:27. One of the ways we get careless is when we give unnecessary places to the devil in our minds, in our lives, we’re simply being careless.

Remember that our sub-series says – Carefree but not Careless. And in the first part of this sub series, we looked at being carefree. In the last class, we learnt not to be careless. In this class, we’re saying GIVE NO PLACE TO THE DEVIL. The main series is titled, Come, Drink – John 7:37 – If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink.

John 7:38 says that those who believe in me, out of their bellies shall flow out rivers of living waters. So then, following the occurrences of that water and seeing all the benefits and advantages we have in it, is what led us to where we are now. That led us to Judges 7:2-6, where we looked at Gideon’s army that was to face the midianites and their cohorts. Midian has been a thorn in the Israelites’ flesh. Gideon is the lowest in his clan, but God raised him up to fight against Midian. Gideon raised an army of 32,000 men in Judges 7:1. In verse 2, God said he would not go to battle with 32,000 men else the people may claim that their strength defeated Midian.

The first qualifying test is when God instructed that any one among them who is fearful should return home. “If you’re fearful, go home”. 22,000 men failed this test. They returned home because they were fearful.

10,000 men that passed that test. We concluded that this is a test of being carefree. Now, there’s a second test. God told Gideon to make them drink water at the river. Those who scoop water on their hand to drink, being conscious and vigilant about their environment as they drank, were only 300. They are deemed fit for the war, because they are vigilant, as a soldier should be. They passed the test!

The remaining 9,700 who dipped their mouth directly into the water, failed the test and were sent home. To drink directly with your mouth plunged into the stream could only mean that you will be ignorant of any advancement of the enemy, since you’re in a war, and you could be caught off Guard and attached from any side.

This teaches us a lesson, in our Christian race, only very few are being careful. At any point in time, only a handful of Christian’s are living their lives carefully, not being careless. So many people rely on the grace of God and become careless. Of course, the Bible says that the grace of God is sufficient for you.

But when you put yourself into trouble because you’re being careless, God will come to your aide, but sometimes it doesn’t happen without some bruises and scars which would have been avoided, had you been careful.

For example, if you are moving on your own and all of a sudden, you chose not to look away from temptation. You glared at it intently until you were fired with an arrow of immorality. One thing leads to the other and you find yourself neck-deep into sin. Then you cry to God for help for days, months or years. He will come to your aide and rescue you, but if you get out of that, you must have lost some things in the process.

Satan is now making sin very enticing. He won’t start by presenting the whole naked sin to you. He will start by making you feel it’s okay to watch it on your phone, it’s okay to listen to it on radio and feel cool or jest about it; He will make you feel it’s okay to associate with them.

This “it’s okay, it’s not bad” Christianity and mentality is what leads you deep into sin gradually. You are becoming more and more careless. When the devil discovers that you have lost your guard and you become vulnerable, he strikes with an arrow. Sometimes, the arrow is a mild one. Only little damage is done. But if you are not still careful again, and you don’t quickly come out and guard your loins out of whatever led you into it in the first place,m – the association, the circumstance that led you into that sin; then you risk falling neck deep into it.

Bible says in Psalm 1:3:
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

If you do not quickly pick God’s word and feed and feed your spirit ma with it, you go deeper until you become completely weak and unguarded, the devil strikes again and that could be dangerous. You will not get into that situation in Jesus Name. If you find yourself in any sin right now, and you find it difficult to stop and set yourself free from any sin, and you’re hearing this right now, I set you free in the mighty name of Jesus. If somehow, you want to stop that sin or addiction. It wasn’t like this before, it started gradually. By the power in the blood of Jesus, the Bible says at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow, I command such demonic grips upon you to lose in Jesus Name. Amen.

Let’s come back to our sub-series – CARE FREE, BUT NOT CARELESS.

What we do many times that get us careless, is when we give place to the devil. Let us read that scripture from Ephesians 4;25-32 and understand the points we’re trying to make clearly. Please flip over.

We get careless when we give place to the devil. In the beginning, sin makes you look rosy. Our world is filled with immorality. We cannot shut our eyes, people dressing half nude everywhere. It’s our responsibility to guard and eye-gates, ear-gates and other senses-gates. You choose what to pay attention to. If you see something mistakenly the first time, you don’t allow the second look. You have to be deliberate about it. Being careful is a deliberate exercise. You make sure things are done and done rightly and in order.

Please, avoid any doubt in your communications. If for instance you’re talking to someone, and you perceive that they are erroneously assuming that you’re making some kind of monetary demands from them or whatever, pause and clarify such, for the avoidance of doubt. Let them understand clearly that you aren’t making any demand from them, if you aren’t. Make sure every matter is settled. If you’re in business, spell out hidden terms and conditions, that could cause rifts in future. You know that most terms and conditions are stated in tiny lines, and there’s possibility the other party assumes you’re providing a privilege or service that’s not included in the deal.

People are quick to tag Christian’s as dishonest. Please don’t let anyone stamp your integrity with stains. Please don’t give place to the devil.

Ephesians 4:25 says, Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man’s truth with his neighbour: for we are members of one another.

When you speak lies, you’re giving place to the devil. You’re being careless with your soul. May we not be careless anymore. Sometimes, it’s not intentional, but sheer carelessness. The moment you open that door in your life, Satan slips in an arrow ,and that may take you some time to get it out. While the arrow remains there, a lot of evil things might happen.

How do I know that? It’s in 1 Pet 5:7.
Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, moves about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. He will not devour us in Jesus Name.

Verse 26 says Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

You can be angry, but do not sin. But if you read the Bible further in James 1:19-20, he even says, don’t be angry at all, because the anger of man does not work for the righteousness of God. Please forbid anger in your life. When you get angry, you give place to the devil in your life. May we be healed in the name of Jesus.

Verse 27 is our Title for today – DON’T GIVE PLACE TO THE DEVIL. When you speak lies and get angry, you’re giving place to the devil.

Verse 28 says Let him that steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Don’t steal, whether out of pretence, intentionally, unconsciously. Don’t allow yourself be roped in to an ungodly scheme that you know nothing or little about. The moment you find out, go and announce that you know nothing about it. Don’t keep silent at the expense of your soul. Bible says let him that stole steal no more, but rather labour with your hands, so God can blesss you with that which you need to even bless others.

Verse 29 talks about our communication. We get careless through this avenue also.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

When we speak the slangs of the world, the way they speak them, somehow there should be a kind of language that’s acceptable to your spirit man. It doesn’t matter whether the meaning is just okay. Please be careful with your communication. Don’t snub people. Even when what they say is not okay to you, still keep your cool. Don’t give place to the devil.

Verse 30 says And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

May you not grieve the Holy Spirit in you in Jesus name.

Verse 31says Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Now, you see where we are going with this. This is what we saw in verse 25 and 25, teaching us to avoid lying and anger. Verse 31 say, repeats it and talks about bitterness. Every hour you go, accommodating bitterness in your heart, the devil is depositing certain negative things in your heart. Apologize if necessary. Let all bitterness, anger, rancour, malice etc be put away from you.

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Be tenderhearted, forgive easily. Because that’s the example of Jesus Christ. The gospel of Jesus is a gospel of forgiveness. We have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But he gave himself as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we’ll become righteous through His righteousness. Any time we run foul of these things, we’re only opening up ourselves and becoming vulnerable. Don’t give place to the devil by being careless with your soul.

May you not be careless anymore, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Lord, we receive grace to live by your word. We break every yoke of bitterness and anger, stealing, lying in our lives, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Now, if you haven’t given your life to Jesus, and you’re finding yourself falling short of these sins, you need to come to him today, start by accepting Him as your Lord and saviour. Please don’t postpone it, because it can happen now. Now bow your hearts and say: Lord Jesus,I come to you today, I’m glad you died for my sins and made provision for my salvation. I repent of these sins and forsake them. Henceforth, I accept you as my Lord and saviour. Please write my name in the Book of Life.

I close the door against the devil in my life. My name is written in the book of Life. HALLELUJAH. Thank you Jesus. In Jesus mighty mighty Name we have prayed. Amen. Congratulations.

We meet again next time, in Jesus Name. Amen.
