Part 2 – FOLLOW ME – Part 2 – (Jesus Speaking) – | John 1:43 | My Jesus Today – Lesson 06 | David Adeniji

At what point do we draw a line between following God and following Men-of-God ? Honestly, it’s hard to know. The secret is not in trying to find that thin line or nursing sentiments against pastors. That in itself leads to error and rebellion.

In John 1:45 when Philip found Nathaniel, he told him – “We have found the Messiah! – the very person Moses and the prophets told about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth!” This man knew of Moses and had read the scriptures enough to know that both Moses and the prophets had prophesied about Him as the Messiah. Hence, he knew Jesus was the one to follow and not Moses, or the prophets. That’s a clue you know? Read the scriptures!

The secret is to allow the holy spirit lead us in Christ’s path always. If we are humble in spirit, he will place us under the right shepherds. When he sees error ahead, he will raise a flag in our spirit’s. When he does, we go on our knees and pray for our pastors. Understanding that no man is immune from error, keeps us humble, our hearts open and our spirit’s free of bias!

Now, this is where LOVE comes in.

As a matter of fact, we are to love our pastors to the extent of gauging all their words, actions and messages with God’s word, to confirm that God is always speaking through them. Bible says The Berean Christians in Acts 17:11 were more open-minded than those of Thessalonica, in that, even though they always ‘gladly’ listened to the message, they proceeded to search the scriptures daily, checking up Paul & Silas’ Teachings, to see if they were correct! Wow! That’s not rebellion, it’s true followership in love! Hallelujah!

Let’s always pray for them. But when we notice a seeming disconnect, let’s not hesitate to reach out to them, maybe not directly, but through their existing laid down channels and structure of communication in the fold (church). Not in derogation, but in love. Not in arrogance but in humility. Remember they are anointed of God. Don’t correct them in mockery or blasphemy, but in high regard and honour. Don’t be like Miriam and Aaron in Numbers 12:1. Lord we receive this word. Amen.
