Up until my mid-twenties, I didn’t know there was something called fashion sense. I would wear shirts and trousers not minding whether colours match. Like having yellow shirt on purple trousers, or brown shirt on green. But I was fine, since I didn’t know, until one day, a classmate showed my how awkward my colour combinations looked, compared with other young men.

My eyes immediately popped open and since then I was mindful of colours. I mean, it was like I’ve been in darkness all along. Little wonder, a few times people would stare as they walked pass me. Well, to me, they’re only admiring the glory of God in me. I never knew they also marveled at my poor dress sense.

So it is with the matter of Holiness. First you need to appreciate how Holy God is, that He is thrice holy, and if you’re to be Holy as he is, you don’t stand a chance if you intend to achieve that by your wit or by simply keeping ‘all’ the law. He has to ‘make’ you holy, and that of course, not without your own cooperation.

But by beholding, acknowledging and surrendering at the grandeur and depth of his holiness, he will shine His light on the dark areas of your life and expose your weakness, frailty, and vanity to you to the extent you seek repentance and want a fix desperately. Bible says, the Holy spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement – John 19:8-9

And if don’t understand this yet, take a look at Isaiah, in Isaiah 6:3-6. Yesterday, we say how he beheld God’s Holiness as filling all the earth. Following that, he was convicted of his filth. All along, he was a man of unclean lips, and he hasn’t repented of that, yet he’s a prophet of God. God convicted him, and he was desperate for a fix. Thereafter the angel baptized his tongue with fire, and that was his salvation. God is the one who works in us both to will and to do his good pleasure – Phil 2:13.

So Holiness comes when you behold God’s Holiness, he reveals to you your nakedness, you get determined to repent and obey, and that’s it, you’re cleansed by His blood. This process must be continuous and genuine. However, you can speed it up. The more of him you behold, the holier you have the opportunity to become. That’s holiness!
