YOU RECEIVED GOD’S SPIRT, Not The World’s Spirit | 1 John 2:16 | I Know Whom I Believed – Lesson 8 | David Adeniji

In those days the words – Christian, Church, Pastor – were held with so much reverence. Because a certain standard of conduct is seen among us. Also because a certain wave of supernatural manifestation is seen in our gatherings. Now, many people at best appear indifferent, when they hear us. Worse still, there’s a level of contempt in the society against the church, and God’s servants.
But God’s power has not changed, the church has in no way lost its relevance. And you won’t believe this, the world has more confidence in the church now, more than ever. But our case is like that of sleeping beauty. Everyone’s waiting for us to wake up and take our place.
No wonder Romans 8:19 had said that the earnest expectation of the creature awaits the manifestations of the sons of God. The church and we the people of Christ, now need to rise up, and learn the ways of the one whom we received. It appears, there’s a new generation of believers who have grown up not knowing the raw acts of God, and hence are failing to backup their professed love for God, with an active engagement in searching for the knowledge of Him, already given to them freely (1 Cor 2:12) and completely (1 Pet 1:3). And this knowledge contains every good thing we might ever need.
Yesterday, I told you I know whom I received. I asked if you do too. If we do, then we shouldn’t always wait on the world for ideas, inspiration and patterns or even dancing steps, as if we don’t have a unique spirit. Instead, the world should copy us and learn from us. But how will that be, when we do not have a deep knowledge of the things God has given to us freely? Why don’t we? Because we compare ourselves with the world. We do that a lot. But we shouldn’t. We have not received the world’s spirit. No we haven’t! There’s a spirit in the world. That Spirit controls three things – Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – 1 John 2:16.
The lust of the flesh is too much appetite for food, bodily pleasures, and sleep. Jesus confirmed that in Matt 4:4 when the devil tempted Him. But this subject is a big deal. Let’s delve into it tomorrow. Receive the power to overcome the flesh, in Jesus Name. Amen.
